Some mixdowns problems but i'll get to that in a bit.

You've got a really creative flare & your melodies are good!

The problem is that because the mixdown isn't quite there yet the melodies suffer with sounding a bit thin and lack energy, Eqing and compression are your friends here.

I think generally better quality drum samples will make a big difference here too!

Sub-bass into mono please, sidechained heavily to the drums then bring up the overall volume of the bass will give loooooads more energy in my opinion.

Very euphoric track though with lots of creativity! Followed :)

Hey dude

Around 1.10 mark theres a really nice melody kicking off but the auto-pan effect is a little distracting from the melody (in my opinion) stop the auto-pan effect on the actual synth but use it on a simple delay effect on the synth, will make it sound a lot wider & we will be able to hear that nice melody & make it "phatter".

Really nice track don't be so harsh on your self with the "mediocre" description dude. Just one to two mix down tweaks and i'd give it a 5 star :)

Came here from R4R thread

Drewpy responds:

Thanks for the response! I said "mediocre" because I'm teaching myself everything I know about music production, and I know I'm going to get better eventually, but my tracks right now aren't amazing. Thanks for the advice though!

Although I like trap as much as i like syphilis this is a really good track well done, the brass/trombone has really good power & thickness to it, which Kontakt library is that? Good consistant mix.

Only recommendation (and only a recommendation) is possibly tad more reverb on hats and pan them a little.

R4R? :)

SoTJake responds:

Yeah, now that you said it the hats could really need some adjustments, thanks for the advice :)

The brass is in the Kontakt Factory Library under Brass Ensemble. I played it as chords and pitched it a bit. Thanks for your review :)

If this is a new form of Trance i'm excited for it haha, love the thickness/fullness of your bass man really well done. My personal flavour would have been make the percussive sound at start/throughout have a longer reverb tail but wharves, still a great track.

TheCon-Sept responds:

Each track I create uses a lot of sample work. Sometimes you find a drum set that just clashes with everything else you put with it. Even the main back beat bassline I put in sounds a little over powered. As you noticed the drums actually change from progression to progression. And they seem to mend into each other without much notice.

As for reverb. I mostly use that for other transitions. But in this case I wanted it to be a bit more on the recessive side of trance. To try and get people used to the drums coming in a different angle.

Nailed it, so well mixed. Most professional sounding i've heard on the audio portal in a long time.

you've actually got a really good ear for this dude well done, flows brilliantly. It's got some mix down problems but sound design wise it's actually pretty clear.

Kinda sad it ended at 2:13 too thought something insane was about to break out!

good work dude.

DarkBlueFX responds:

Thank you! I will fix these mixing problems here and re-upload. As for the ending, I kinda wanted it to be kinda like "lol jk! No drop here!" But now I definitely want something to be there, so I'm going to go back and add more.

returning the favour!

Ok so as usual your composition is great 5/5 for that and the violin in the breakdown is a really nice touch. I'd say lay of the Downlifters though in the break.

Ok so like the last the mixdown it's a sidechain/Kick drum thing, have a look at "obtaining" a copy of Xfer LFO tool or something which will squash the volume of the bass down according to how much you want which will help the kick come out more as i feel it's slightly hidden.

My main snag in this all and all is the kick doesn't punch through on the drop. Like i said before message me if theres anyway i can help.

Make sure you don't leave this song and forget about it though, learn more mixing and refine this because the synths, progression, composition, melodies etc.. are brilliant it just needs some tweaking thats all.

good job man.

Dj-Gonzo responds:

Thanks for returning the favour D00fy! I will search the Xfer LFO to improve the sidechaining (I usually use Effector or Fruity Parametric EQ 2 for those issues). Also, feel free to message me if you need anything too! I will try to reupload this song as soon as I can improve those things you and the others say in the reviews. Greetings from Spain! :)

Returning the favour of a review, thank you for yours :).

Melody is brilliant along with the chords, hint of SHM in there for sure. Very likeable song! points noted on the mix down side (Listening on KRK 5s) the bass in the 100hz zone does appear to be drowning the kick from what i can tell, have a look at whats going on in your side chaining & make sure all none bass sounds are high passed accordingly :).

The bass synth it's self has some peaks in volume so have a look at some multi band compression and try even out rogue notes that course these peaks.

5/5 for composition though! any more in-depth reviews feel free to message me.

good work :)

Dj-Gonzo responds:

Thanks for reviewing my song! I will check out those issues with my headphones asap. Also thank you for offering such a favour, I will follow you to help you too, it is always pleasant to see producers interested in helping other musicians improve, thanks a lot! Greetings from Spain. :D
