Giving 4 because the actually progression of the song, choice of synth and melodies are great.

upriser thats at about 34 seconds and then at other points in the song has a really harsh resonance go over it with a bandpass find the culprate frequency and cut it out.

Louder bass plssss.

Everything sounded pretty wide in the stereo field too.

Hope this helps some way or another. Good song tho.

BlackACE321 responds:

Thanks a lot, I already fixed the upriser (it was just a lowpassed snare with high resonance, so I didn't need to really bandpass, just moved the resonance knob) and the bass boost was even easier.

I might actually submit he new version today :3

Haven't downrated below 3 but i'll still give you some tips for vocals! :)

For a start though good song, passionate lyrics really liked the the trance kinda synth that responded to the vocals.

With vocals they always (Never an always with music) but when it comes to mix down lead vocals do tend to cut down the center of the mix with the drums. At points it almost sounded like the vocals were ping pong delaying left to right (In my shyte samsung mobile headphones).

When using delay on vocals you almost want to make a duplicated copy of the vocals and set delay to 100% wet, this way it widens out your vocals but your main vocals are still cutting through the center of the mix making vocals easier to hear.

You can add a lowpass filter on the delayed vocals to about 7,000kHz this will add a sense of depth to the vocals too.

Good stuff for a first experience with vocals though man, nice effect on them whatever it is melodyne, autotune i dunno lol.

Ikamiru responds:

The microphone I'm using is pretty bad I'm quite sure it would have sounded a lot better with a clearer microphone. But I really appreciate the time and effort you put into writing this review. Thanks!
And the vocals were created with Fruity Loops Vocodex VST and Edison for recording.

fucking amazing progression love it, again tho like the guy below said about the bass synth. What DAW u use?

JoshuaHughes responds:

I'm glad you like it! I've used FL Studio for years now. I think I'm too comfortable with it, because I won't even play around in Ableton or SonarX1 anymore.

Okay, it's a 4 because you've done this in 30 which is pretty damn fast.

Cool minimal song, sounds undergroundy and like a song you'd hear when the last party goers at 6am are all pilled up to the eye balls dancing.

recommendation would be with the Right on Time vocals...which sound familiar;)... try widening them more in the stereo space for the effect of back ground vocals. Or if you want to have them driving the song then pick up the volume on them by like 2db or something, add a bit of reverb to them so people can get a better understanding of where the vocals sound like they're being said.

Nice one man tho, hope this helps!

Waidmann responds:

i actually had the same idea with the stereozation of the vocal

but then again i just halfassed it so

might come back to it

Okay, this one is absolutely mint in the way of synths, feels, and melodies. Please stick these drums out more though!! Boost Transients, make sure bass is sidechained to it (and if you don't want the bass pump effect just side chain it to the dominant frequencies in the drums which is usually at the 100hz mark!

Really cool man, just drums.

Really cool idea man. for ideas rating i would give a 6 star for its creativity.

Overall though with the claim of irresistible urge to dance you need to sort out the mixdown especially on the drums as they are what make people dance and they get hidden by the bass.

hope this helps man

triptonikhan responds:

I hear you man! I would re-mix this album, and have a couple of the tracks in the works for that, but I made this album back in 2010 and life plus new tunes are constant roadblocks. Head over to the bandcamp site to check out all the more recent stuff if you like!

Returning the favor!

The feel through out the whole song was consistent and true to itself which was good. When the hihats come in at the start were spot on. Distant vocals added have this really nice element to them that feel like they completely belong in the song. Synths are all nicely chosen.

Help in hand pointer :)
I'd look at Stereo spacing as your next move, drums sounded wide in the mix. They need to be tightened and narrowed (generally speaking) to try separate them in the mix from synths and stuff.

Reccommend obtaining... Waves S1 pluggin OR have a look at Flux pretty sure they do a decent stereo tool for free.

hope this helps man, good work!

Yojimbo92 responds:

Cheers D00FY,

It's really hard to get criticism these days so It's much appreciated when I get some as constructive as this.

Stereo spacing is a new one on me, so that's a definite progression point and I'll look into those VSTs as well.

Thanks again.

Let's keep entertaining!

Not bad man, but to me the snare sounds pretty flat, could probs do with some transient shaping of something to give it some smack IMO, well done tho good stuff.

wulfsok responds:

i hope you dont mean the snare that plays during the pad sequences (without the bass/lead). that sample doesnt clash with the mid range so i could open up the pad a bit more

if youre talking about the other snare, i actually debated making it less punchy. and imo shaping and saturation sounds a bit more manufactured for the drums than just using parallel compression (if the sample was an acoustic record, synthesized drums always sound like drum machines)

thanks for the review! happy mixing to ya

Cool & soothing man. I really can't think of how to give much helpful feedback on this as it's a song thats out of my kinda zone, i'll say this though, I'd have a look at the kick though it feels kind of gentle should i say in some parts (You can hear it but it doesn't really drive through the song if you get me) perhaps maybe look into boosting transients in the kick to give it more of a snap.

Thing is though although i've said this maybe this song is one for gentle drums kinda like something of the Daft Punk - R.A.M album if you know what i mean.

Good work though man has emotion in it which is what really defines a song most the time anyway!

Sorry i couldn't really be of much help here.

Reeeally nice composition man, enjoyed it as a song, all the instruments complimented each other, That pluck is fckin mint too! Snyths worked with the bass. My only thing is what jawalker213 said about the kick, It does feel abit hidden. Good stuff though man, should be proud!

Kloudtana responds:

Thanks a lot man. I'll definetly be more mindful of my kicks in the future :V
